Introduction to a Rare Handbag
The original Hermès handbag owned by a famous personality was sold at an auction for more than €6 million.
The Auction Process
The auction took place at Sotheby’s and was part of the "Fashion Icons" sale in Paris during Haute Couture Week. The bidding process was intense, with the final offer resulting in a huge gasp followed by thundering applause in the auction house.
History of the Handbag
The bag was first designed in the 1980s after the owner requested a larger bag suitable for mothers. The head of Hermès at the time, Jean-Louis Dumas, was approached with the idea, and a bag with space for baby bottles was designed in 1984. The fashion company then asked the owner if they could name the object after her, to which she agreed.
The Sale of the Handbag
The handbag has been one of the most sought-after objects in recent years, and its sale at the auction was highly anticipated. The final sale price of over €6 million reflects the bag’s rarity and cultural significance.
