Winter Perfume Trends

The perfume landscape is warming up, with sweet scents like marshmallow, chocolate, and especially vanilla becoming increasingly popular. After years of ultra-pure citrus notes and masculine musk notes, shoppers are gravitating towards scents that feel emotionally calming, with sweet and warm scents coming out on top.

Trendy Alternatives

For those who are not fans of sweet scents, there are some trendy alternatives. The five winter scents that will define the 2025/26 season are:

1. Creamy Gourmets

Foodies are back, but they’ve grown up, with syrupy scents tempered by creaminess, spice, and skin-warming floral aromas. This season’s sweetest scents are all about cozy, comforting fragrances that make you feel warmer. Tom Ford Soleil Blanc is a perfect example, with gentle, addictive warmth and notes of pistachio, cardamom, and tuberose.

2. Saffron Tips

Saffron is the sophisticated addition to the trendy base note of vanilla. It’s spicy but gentle, adding depth without heaviness. The Serpentine perfume by Roberto Cavalli is a highlight, with golden saffron giving it a radiant warmth that blends beautifully with jasmine, lavender, and a creamy vanilla tonka base.

3. Warm Woods

Woods remain a winter staple, but the focus has shifted to softer, more wearable interpretations. Sandalwood and amber are absolute winter heroes, giving fragrances a gentle, long-lasting trail. Montblanc Explorer Extreme is a standout, with bergamot, vetiver, patchouli, and an amber leather base that gives a warm, confident glow.

4. Light Vanilla

Not everyone wants their winter scent to feel heavy, especially when it transitions into cozy warmth. The key is to balance the notes, combining warmth with a little lightness. Armani My Way Eau De Parfum is a scent that has a lovely vanilla base but still feels bright and uplifting.

5. Soft and Sweet

For those just starting to explore warmer scents, it’s all about discovering notes that provide warmth without feeling heavy. Ingredients like tonka bean, vanilla, amber, and subtle spices are perfect. Marc Jacobs Daisy Love Eau So Sweet is a great example, with creamy vanilla and gentle floral notes.

6. Powdery Skin Scents

Not all winter scents have to be rich or edible. Powdery, skin-hugging scents are making a comeback, with notes such as iris, musk, and soft florals providing a clean but calming "fresh linen and cashmere" effect. Prada Infusion d’Iris is a great scent that wraps cool iris in soft musky notes, cozy in a different way – not warm as a fireplace, but soft, enveloping, and elegant.
