New Leadership at Arista Records
Arista Records has announced a new leadership team, with Clio Massey and Matt d’Arduini appointed as co-presidents of the label. This news comes two months after David Massey, the experienced music manager who restarted the famous record label in 2018, announced his retirement from the company.
Background on the New Co-Presidents
Clio Massey, David’s daughter, was previously the General Manager of Arista’s art publishers and Vice President of A&R on the label. She will continue to oversee the art department in her new role. D’Arduini, who has been with Arista since its relaunch, previously worked as an Executive Vice President of A&R. The duo will report to Rob Stringer, the chairman of the Sony Music Group.
Reaction from Sony Music Group Chairman
"We are pleased to announce a seamless transition for Arista, which was creatively reborn in 2018," said Stringer in a statement. "Clio and Matt are dynamic and forward-thinking leaders who can best build on the artist development they were involved in during the first phase of the new Arista. Their skills complement each other perfectly, and as a partnership, they will lead to an exciting future for the label."
History of Arista Records
Arista was founded in 1974 by Clive Davis and was best known as the home of stars such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Barry Manilow. The label closed in 2011, and David Massey was tapped in 2018 to revive it. The new Arista has had its greatest success with Måneskin, who had an international hit with their cover of "Beggin". The label’s roster also includes JP Saxe, Lola Brooke, and Måneskin’s Damiano David.
Statements from the New Co-Presidents
"I am thrilled and grateful for this opportunity," said Clio Massey in a statement. "I look forward to continuing to work with the talented artists and the extraordinary team at Arista, together with Matt. We are excited to shape and develop our roster in the next chapter."
D’Arduini added, "We aim to build on Arista’s progress in recent years and to discover and nurture even more talent within our company."
