Introduction to Reneé Rapp
Reneé Rapp’s mother apparently knew that her daughter was destined for pop stardom even before she was born. The singer and actress recently shared with the "Smartless with Amy Poehler" podcast how her mother, Denise Rapp, manifested her music career when choosing her name.
The Story Behind Her Name
Rapp explained that her mother chose her first and last name to have two letter R’s, which she joked was "manifested." Although she found it funny, she admitted that she was actually "obsessed" with the path her mother had laid out for her and was grateful for it. Amy Poehler was impressed by the coincidence, saying that Reneé Rapp is a great pop star name, to which Rapp agreed.
Career Beginnings
Rapp started her entertainment career in the Broadway musical "Mean Girls," playing the role of Regina George. She later reprised her role in the 2024 movie musical adaptation. In addition to her music career, she also starred in the HBO show "The Sex Lives of College Girls" before leaving during the third season.
Music Career
However, Rapp’s true passion is music. She released her debut studio album, "Snow Angel," in 2023 and is set to release her second album, "Bite With Me," in August. She also recently dropped her new single "Leave Me Alone," which appears to reference her old job on "The Sex Lives of College Girls" in one of the lyrics.
New Music and Inspiration
In "Leave Me Alone," Rapp sings about taking her sex life with her and wanting to have fun, seemingly alluding to the cancellation of the show after the third season. With her music career taking off, it’s clear that Rapp is excited to focus on her passion and share her talents with the world.
