Introduction to the Program

The Austrian insurance company Uniqa, in collaboration with the Sarajevo film festival from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian film event Slano Film Days, has launched a support program for female filmmakers. This initiative aims to empower women in the film industry across six countries in Southeast Europe where Uniqa is active: Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, and Montenegro.

Eligibility and Focus

The program, titled The Female Filmemacher Support Program, is designed for female directors or co-directors and at least one other key female crew member, such as a screenwriter, director of photography, composer, or producer. While the program primarily targets filmmakers from the aforementioned countries, it also welcomes applicants from other countries who have a producer or co-producer from one of the six eligible nations.

Objectives and Benefits

The primary objectives of the program are to increase the representation and diversity of women in the regional film industry, provide financial support for the production of their film projects, and foster career development through training and skill-building opportunities within the Cinelink Industry program. By doing so, the initiative seeks to address the existing gender gap in the film sector and promote more inclusive and diverse storytelling.

Funding and Duration

A total budget of €150,000 has been allocated for the program in 2025, with the initiative approved to run for two years. This financial support will be crucial in helping female filmmakers bring their projects to life and make a meaningful impact on the industry.

Conclusion

The Female Filmemacher Support Program represents a significant step forward in promoting gender equality and diversity in the film industry of Southeast Europe. By providing financial and professional support to female filmmakers, the program has the potential to inspire a new generation of women to pursue careers in film and contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive cinematic landscape.
