Spanish Film Industry Supports Domingo Corral

The Spanish film industry has come together to show its support for Domingo Corral, who recently left his position at Movistar Plus+. A total of 144 Spanish film professionals, including top talents such as Pedro Almodóvar, Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Javier Bardem, and Penélope Cruz, have signed a public letter thanking Corral for his work at Movistar Plus+.

Corral’s Departure and Its Impact

Corral’s departure from Movistar Plus+ came as a surprise to the Spanish film industry, particularly with the Cannes film festival just around the corner. During his time at Movistar Plus+, Corral directed the change in the streamer’s original productions, initially focusing on series and later expanding to feature films. He worked closely with leading Spanish production companies, earning the respect and appreciation of his peers.

New Leadership at Movistar Plus+

Following Corral’s departure, Jorge Penzi has taken over as the head of fiction, while Hugo Tomás is now responsible for non-fiction and entertainment. These changes come after a shift in management at the Telefónica group, with Marc Murtra becoming the new president in January and Daniel Domenjó set to take over as CEO of Movistar Plus+ in March.

Upcoming Projects

Despite the changes, Movistar Plus+ has a number of exciting projects in the works. One of the most anticipated films is "Syrup," directed by Oliver Laxe, which will be showcased at the Cannes film festival. The film is a co-production between Movistar Plus+ and several other companies, including El Deseo and 4A4 productions. Other upcoming projects include the thriller "The Tigers" by Alberto Rodríguez, "The Black Ball" by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, and "The Loved One" starring Javier Bardem and directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

A Legacy of Support for Creative Teams

The support letter signed by the Spanish film professionals thanks Corral and his team for their decades of work at Movistar Plus+, highlighting their commitment to respecting creative teams, building close relationships with independent producers, and prioritizing entertainment. The letter is a testament to Corral’s legacy and the impact he has had on the Spanish film industry.

A List of Luminaries

The list of professionals who have signed the letter in support of Corral is a veritable who’s who of the Spanish film industry. In addition to Almodóvar, Sorogoyen, Bardem, and Cruz, the list includes filmmakers such as Alejandro Amenábar, Oliver Laxe, and Alberto Rodríguez, as well as producers Agustín Almodóvar and Esther García. The president of the Spanish Film Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, and actors such as Leonardo Sbaraglia, Carmen Machi, and Eduard Fernández have also added their names to the letter.
