Box Office Report: May 2nd to 4th

The summer blockbuster season has kicked off with a bang, with Disney/Marvel’s **Thunderbolts*** making a impressive debut. The film has earned an estimated $162.1 million worldwide, with $86.1 million coming from international markets and $76.0 million from North America.

Top 10 Films at the Box Office

Here are the top 10 films at the box office for the weekend:

  2. Sinner (Warner Bros) – $43.4 million
  3. A Minecraft film (Warner Bros) – $40.3 million
  4. The Dumpling Queen (Different) – $16.8 million
  5. The Accountant 2 (Warner Bros) – $16.6 million
  6. A Gilded Game (Different) – $11.1 million
  7. Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback (The) – $10.4 million
  8. Until Dawn (Sony) – $10.2 million
  9. Attack 2 (Different) – $8.3 million
  10. Ne ZHA 2 (Different) – $6.4 million

Thunderbolts* Shows Box Office Promise

**Thunderbolts* has achieved the third largest opening number for a US studio film in 2025, behind A Minecraft film and Captain America: Brave New World. The film has opened 45% ahead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, 13% ahead of Ant-Man, and 7% ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy** in similar markets without China.

The top international market for **Thunderbolts*** is China, with an estimated $10.4 million, followed by the UK/Ireland ($7.7 million), Mexico ($7.3 million), Brazil ($4.0 million), and France ($3.8 million). IMAX has estimated that the film earned $18.1 million, which is 11% of the total $162.1 million.

Sinner Posts Strong Hold

Warner Bros’ Sinner has posted a strong hold in its third weekend, earning an estimated $43.4 million worldwide and bringing its total to $236.7 million. The film has already exceeded the global lifetime of Creed ($174.2 million) and Creed II ($214.2 million), and is expected to soon surpass Creed III ($276.1 million).

The Dumpling Queen Tops China Box Office

The biographical drama The Dumpling Queen has topped the China box office, earning an estimated $17.1 million and bringing its total to $26.4 million over the five-day opening period. The film tells the story of a single mother who started selling her homemade dumplings at the Wan Chai Pier in Hong Kong and became a global success.

Other new entries in the top 10 chart include the Indian crime thriller Attack 2, which has earned an estimated $8.3 million, and A Gilded Game, which has earned an estimated $11.1 million. A Minecraft film has added another estimated $40.3 million to its total, bringing it to $873.4 million worldwide.
