Introduction to Jonathan Anderson’s New Role

After a successful 11-year run at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson has been appointed as the artistic director of Dior Menswear, succeeding Kim Jones who resigned in January. The announcement was made after the chairman and CEO of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, revealed that Anderson would design the next Dior men’s show on June 27.

Background on Jonathan Anderson

Anderson was appointed Creative Director of Loewe, an LVMH-owned house, in September 2013. At the time, he was a 29-year-old designer with his own company, JW Anderson, which he founded in 2008. During his tenure at Loewe, the house became one of the hottest luxury fashion brands, with his SS25 show receiving a standing ovation from many of his colleagues and celebrities.

Success at Loewe

Under Anderson’s leadership, Loewe’s turnover increased significantly, rising from around €230 million in 2014 to between €1.5 billion and €2 billion in 2024, according to estimates. His exit from Loewe was announced in March, and he was replaced by Proenza Schouler founders Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez.

The Challenge at Dior

The question remains whether Anderson can reproduce the same magic at Dior Men. Like many of its peers, Dior was affected by the luxury downturn and global turbulence, with sales in the first quarter decreasing by 5 percent. However, Dior remains a mega-brand, with sales estimated to be around €8.7 billion in 2024.

Anderson’s Approach

Anderson is known for his conceptual and clean collections, which have made him a hardworking and brilliant designer. He has the ability to join the Dior DNA, and his approach to fashion, which is both conceptual and clean, may be just what the brand needs to revamp its image. With his new role, Anderson has the opportunity to bring his unique perspective to Dior Men and potentially reproduce the same success he had at Loewe.
