Introduction to Film London

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced a significant investment of 7.3 million GBP in the film industry over the next four years. This funding will cover various aspects of the industry, including film, television, animation, and games, and is consistent with the levels of investment seen in previous years.

Investment Breakdown

The 7.3 million GBP investment is part of a larger package of over 10 million GBP aimed at supporting the city’s creative industry. This package will also benefit other recipients, including the British Fashion Council and the London Design Festival. The breakdown of the investment for the film industry is as follows:

  • 4.8 million GBP for film and film festivals
  • 1.5 million GBP for games
  • 940,000 GBP for television and animation

Previous Support and Activities

In the past, Film London’s support has included the mayor’s gala at the BFI London Film Festival (LFF) and the Production Finance Market, which takes place during the LFF. Although the exact activities for the coming year have not been confirmed, it is expected that the support will continue to promote and develop the film industry in London.

Economic Impact

The investment in Film London is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including more than 2.5 billion GBP in film investments and the creation of up to 42,000 job opportunities for film and television crews. This will contribute to the growth and development of the London economy.

About Film London

Film London was founded in 2004 and receives support from various partners, including the BFI, Arts Council England, and the Department of International Trade (DIT). In the financial year ending March 31, 2024, Film London’s total income was 6.7 million GBP. The organization plays a crucial role in promoting and supporting the film industry in London.

The London Growth Plan

The 10 million GBP funding package is part of Mayor Khan’s London growth plan, which aims to boost the productivity of the capital and grow the London economy by 107 billion GBP by 2035. The creative industry, including film, is a significant contributor to the London economy, making up one in five jobs and generating 51.7 billion GBP in revenue each year.
