Introduction to the Program

Each designer is assigned a mentor, and the foundation also has a network of 40 to 50 industry experts that designers can tap for more specific advice. This may include accounting, legal, tax, human resources, commercial partnerships, operations, brand development, creativity or marketing.

Benefits of the Program

Cohort one designers highlighted the benefit of pro bono legal sessions, who developed a contract checklist for the designers. “For cohort one, designers requested specific sessions on specific topics, so we could respond to that and find people who could answer very specific questions,” We put a lot of emphasis on ensuring the mentoring is in-depth and not too generalist so that brands can really feel the impact.

Practical Support

Something as tangible as offering free studio space in central London has had a huge impact for many designers, saving thousands on rent while being able to move to a location that press and buyers can easily access. The physical space has other benefits: Last December, the foundation hosted a Christmas market, offering the first cohort the opportunity to sell directly to customers, something would like to see more of in the industry. “I think it would always be good to see more of that with more focus on sales opportunities,” “Without that, you can’t support your brand development.”
