Introduction to the Film London Production Finance Market

The Film London Production Finance Market (PFM) is an annual event that brings together producers, filmmakers, and financiers to discuss and explore potential business partnerships and investments. This year, the 19th PFM will take place from October 7th to 8th during the BFI London Film Festival.

Keynote Speech by Will Clarke

The keynote speech of the 19th PFM will be delivered by Will Clarke, Co-CEO, chairman, and co-founder of UK Production, Sales, and Distribution Outfit. Clarke will be in conversation with Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London. Wootton praised Clarke, saying, "Will is probably one of the most successful entrepreneurs in our industry, with a view of the entire value chain." Clarke expressed his passion for British cinema, stating, "I am passionate about British cinema and entertaining and committed audience in cinemas and at home."

Opportunities for British Independent Filmmakers

Clarke also expressed his optimism about the opportunity to make British independent filmmakers commercially more successful. He believes that the production finance market is an important platform for talent to showcase their projects and secure financing. The PFM will bring together 110 producers and filmmakers, as well as 74 financiers, for individual meetings to discuss potential business partnerships and investments.

Featured Projects at the PFM

The main slate of the PFM includes 39 titles, featuring British projects such as Afterward, Raub the Joint, and Should Mommy Die Jane. International projects include Afterwards from the Netherlands, Modern Lovers from Australia, and Amy from Germany. Additionally, there are 20 other projects in the new talent strand, including North Korean produced by Aya Kaido for the British Besheh Meesheh films.

Success Stories from the PFM

In the past ten years, the PFM has introduced 708 projects to financiers, studios, and sales companies, with a total value of over £254 million. Previous projects that have benefited from the PFM include The Ceremony, winner of the Sean Connery Prize at last year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, Last Swimming, a Berlinale 2024 generation title, and Grand Theft Hamlet, winner of the SXSW Grand Jury Prize. These success stories demonstrate the importance of the PFM in supporting and promoting British and international filmmaking talent.
