Introduction to the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards
New York Fashion Week officially starts tomorrow, although we have already seen Rachel Comey, Brandon Maxwell and Proenza Schouler’s Rachel Scott. Ralph Lauren is back in the mix this evening, with a show in his uptown headquarters. The Council of Fashion Designer of America (CFDA) then gathers designers in the Rainbow Room for an opening ceremony.
Nominees for the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards
Many of those present will have something to celebrate: the candidates and honor of this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, which will take place on November 3 in the American Museum of Natural History. Ralph Lauren is nominated for the American Womenswear designer of the year and returns to the fold after a few years. Tory Burch, Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera and the first game Daniella Kallmeyer and Rachel Scott come to him for their own label Diotima.
American Womenswear Designer of the Year
Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera, Daniella Kallmeyer, and Rachel Scott are all nominated for the American Womenswear designer of the year. Scott won in 2023 for the aspiring designer and for the Womenswear in 2024 – could she maintain her winning streak?
Menswear Designer of the Year
With regard to men’s clothing, Mike Amiri, Thom Browne, and Willy Chavarria are again nominated, although there are two fun surprises here: Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta have made the cut for their work in Eckhaus Latta as well as Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for their men’s clothing in the series.
Accessories Designer of the Year
The Olsens are also nominated for accessories designers of the year. Ana Khouri, Catherine Holstein for Khaite, Raul Lopez for Luar, and Tory Burch are also nominated for this award.
Emerging Designer of the Year
The aspiring designer of the year includes Taylor Thompson for 5000, Colleen Allen, and CFDA Fashion Fund finalists Ashlynn Park for Ashlyn, Julian Louie for Aubero, and Bernard James.
Honorary Awards
As for this year’s honorary people, Ralph Rucci will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. The tribute of the Isabel Toledo Board of Directors is given to Andre Walker, while the media award will go to Sara Moonves. The founder prize recipient is Cynthia Rowley, and this year’s international designer of the year is Pieter Mulier for Alaïa. Donatella Versace receives the positive change prize for her philanthropic efforts.
