Lady Gaga’s Electrifying Performance at the MTV VMAs 2025
Lady Gaga’s fans who missed her Mayhem Ball Tour during its multiple stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden were in for a treat as part of the MTV VMAs 2025 on Sunday evening. The cable network, which broadcast the show on CBS for the first time this year, featured Gaga’s performance of "Abracadabra" and her new single from Wednesday, Season two, part two, "The Dead Dance", from her Saturday evening concert in Madison Square Garden.
A Unique Performance
Introduced by Rosé, Gaga took to the Manhattan Arena stage, where she towered over a cage full of dancers in a massive red ball gown. She explained, "The category is dance or dying." After performing "Abracadabra", Gaga fell from the tip of the dress into the cage and emerged wearing her "dead dance" gray curls. As the cage opened like a gate, Gaga and her dancers moved down a long runway into the middle of the arena, and then ran back with her dancers as she sang, "Do the dead dance".
Overcoming Adversity
Gaga’s appearance came after she abruptly postponed her Miami concert last Wednesday, citing an "extremely tense" voice. In an Instagram story, she wrote, "During the rehearsal last night and my vocal warm-up tonight, my voice was extremely tense, and both my doctor and my vocal trainer advised me not to continue because of the risk that it represents." Despite this setback, Gaga delivered an unforgettable performance at the VMAs.
A Night of Wins
On Sunday, Gaga briefly left the VMAs to accept the award for Artist of the Year from the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York. In her acceptance speech, she talked about what being an artist means to her, saying it’s an attempt to bring people together around the world and celebrate community. She thanked her fans, her "little monsters", and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, before rushing back to her concert at Madison Square Garden. Gaga won four awards that evening, including some of the top honors, after leading the nominations with 12 nods, including Video of the Year.
