Taylor Swift Announces New Album

Taylor Swift has officially announced her 12th album, which is set to be released on October 3. The album, titled "The Life of a Show Girl", will feature 12 new songs and is inspired by her experiences on the Eras tour. Swift made the announcement on Travis Kelce’s podcast, "New Heights", where she also shared details about the album’s production and songwriting process.

Album Inspiration and Production

Swift revealed that the album is about her life during the Eras tour, saying "It only comes from the most contagious, wild and dramatic place I was in my life". She also confirmed that she worked with legendary hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback on the album, with no other collaborators involved. This will mark Swift’s first record since 2014 that does not feature production by Jack Antonoff.

Tracklist and Collaborations

The album’s tracklist has been released, with the first track being "The Fate of Ophelia" and the fifth track being "Oldest Daughter". The album also features a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter on the final track. Swift has stated that this is the record she has wanted to make for a very long time, and that she is proud of the work she has done with Martin and Shellback.

Working on the Album

Swift started working on "The Life of a Show Girl" while she was on the Eras tour in Europe. She would often fly to Sweden to work on the album during her days off from touring. Despite being physically exhausted, Swift was mentally stimulated and excited to create, saying "I was so mentally stimulated and excited to create". The album’s title is inspired by her life as a touring artist, with Swift saying "I was, that’s why I called it, nailed it".

Personal Life and Masters

In addition to discussing her new album, Swift also opened up about her personal life on the podcast. She talked about her relationship with Travis Kelce, saying that his public declaration of interest in her was "such a wild romantic gesture". Swift also discussed her experience regaining control of her master recordings, saying that it was a "life-changing" moment for her. She had been saving money since she was a teenager to buy back the rights to her music, and was finally able to do so after approaching Shamrock Capital, the company that had purchased her masters from Scooter Braun in 2020.
