Introduction to the Festival

The first military history festival in Great Britain is set to take place from September 26th to 28th, featuring 40 authors, historians, and military experts. The event will be held at various locations, including Hereford Cathedral, The Green Dragon Hotel, and the Castle Green Pavilion. One of the headliners of the festival is actor Larry Lamb, who will be sharing poems and anecdotes in College Hall, Hereford Cathedral, on September 27.

Larry Lamb’s Love for War Poetry

Lamb has a deep love for war poetry, which was instilled in him by his father. His father would read poems from anthologies after the Second World War, and Lamb would listen with great interest. He recalls that his father would read poems that "really spoke to him" and that he loved as a child. Lamb will be sharing some of these poems, as well as his own personal poetry, during his event at the festival.

The Festival’s Lineup

The festival will feature a wide range of discussions and events, including talks with renowned authors and historians such as Kate Adie, Philippe Sands, and Claire Mulley. The events will cover various topics related to global military history, providing a unique insight into the subject. A complete list of events can be found on the festival’s website.

Larry Lamb’s Writing Experience

In addition to his acting career, Lamb is also a writer. He recently published his debut novel, "All Up", which tells the story of a film team that travels to the Caribbean to make a film, but everything that can go wrong does. Lamb describes his writing process as "an extended improvisation", and he requires complete solitude to achieve his goal of writing 1,000 words a day. He believes that isolation is essential for his creativity, and he avoids any distractions, including television, radio, and reading.

What to Expect from the Festival

The military history festival promises to be an exciting and informative event, with a wide range of discussions, talks, and performances. With its diverse lineup of authors, historians, and experts, the festival is sure to appeal to anyone interested in military history. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for something new to learn, the festival is an event not to be missed.
