Introduction to Series Festival

The series festival and industry event series, Berlin, has announced the first premiere and panels for its second edition, which will take place in the German capital from September 15th to 18th. This event is a platform for storytelling and exploring various topics in the television industry.

Featured Series

The series lineup includes a diverse range of shows, such as:

  • "Oh, Otto!", a Belgian queer drama
  • "Eva’s rib", a Colombian TV coming-of-age thriller
  • "Bellevue house", a ZDFNEO German series set in Berlin’s ballroom scene
  • "Kazakh creepy stories", a Kazakh series about an investigator who encounters a supernatural case
  • "Manufacturer (Inuite maker)", a Canadian documentary series that delves into Inuit culture

Panel Highlights

The event features several panels, including:

Fashion as a Narrative Force

The panel "To Impress: Fashion as a Narrative Force" will explore how designers and fashion brands use TV series as creative platforms. It will also discuss how product placement and stylish, story-driven cooperation can benefit both series manufacturers and fashion brands. The panel includes Thavong, a designer born in Laos and creative director at Jim Thompson, who worked on the latest season of "The White Lotus".

Storytelling 2030

Another panel, "Storytelling 2030: Who pays, who plays? Power, platform and the price of creativity in a changing world", will examine the greenlight process and how it depends on great storytelling, strategic partnerships, and navigating a developing financing landscape. The speakers include Benjamina Mirnik-Voges, VP of original production at Walt Disney Company Germany, and Sabine de Mardt, President of Gaumont Germany.

Other Panels and Events

In addition to these panels, the event will also feature discussions on newly invented co-productions, collaborative Palestinian and Israeli letters, queer representation on television, and horror series. The goal of these panels is to create spaces for stories and topics that often have no place in other forums.

Mission and Objective

According to Festival Director Dennis Ruh, "With this year’s program, we remain loyal to our mission to create spaces for stories and topics that often have no place in other phases. We want to present voices and topics that normally become unspoken. Seriesly Berlin aims to show the unexpected, record discussions, and cross the limits of storytelling." This mission drives the selection of series and panels, ensuring a unique and thought-provoking experience for attendees.
