TIFF Docs Lineup Announced

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced its lineup for the TIFF Docs program, which includes 23 titles from 18 countries and 16 world premieres. The program offers a diverse range of documentaries that explore various topics, from photojournalism to oceanography.

World Premieres

The TIFF Docs program includes several world premieres, including "Love+war" by Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, which profiles the photojournalist Lynsey Addario. Another world premiere is "A life illuminated" by Tasha van Zandt, which tells the story of oceanographer Edith Widder. Other world premieres include "The balloonists" by John Dower, "Modern whore" by Nicole Bazin, and "Nuns against the Vatican" by Lorena Luciano, with Mariska Hargitay on board as an executive producer.

International and North American Premieres

The program also includes several international and North American premieres. "Under the clouds" by Gianfranco Rosi will have its international premiere, while "Sightseeing features" by Lucrecia Martel will have its North American premiere. Raoul Peck’s "Orwell: 2+2 = 5" will have its North American premiere after premiering at Cannes.

Opening Film

The TIFF Docs program will open with "The eyes of Ghana" by Ben Proudfoot, which is supported by executive producers Barack and Michelle Obama. The film profiles the Ghanaian filmmaker Chris Hesse.

Other Selections

Other selections in the TIFF Docs program include "A simple soldier" by Juan Camilo Cruz and Artem Ryzhykov, "AKI" by Darlene Naponse, and "Cover" by Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus. The program also includes "Flan" by Zahraa Ghandour, "Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power rises" by Shane Belcourt, and "Powwow people" by Sky Hopinka.
