In other news, Josh Gad was forced to withdraw from a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar after coming down with Covid. The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical will be held this weekend at the Hollywood Bowl, with a lineup including Cynthia Erivo as Jesus and singer Adam Lambert as Judas. The show starts on Friday and runs until Sunday. Gad had been cast to play King Herod, but in an explanation posted on Instagram, he wrote: "With a tremendous amount of heartache, I inform you that I unfortunately came down with a virus known as Covid."
Update on Jesus Christ Superstar
Gad continued: "Anyway, Jesus Christ Superstar this weekend (unless I test negative). It really breaks my heart, but I can assure you that the show will be one of the greatest things you will ever see." It was not announced who will replace Gad as King Herod. Jesus Christ Superstar was first released in 1970 as a concept album and premiered on Broadway in 1971. Since then, it has been revived several times.

Meanwhile, Gad has recently been confirmed to star in the Mel Brooks sci-fi comedy Spaceballs 2. Spaceballs 2 is directed by Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar filmmaker Josh Greenbaum, and will also star Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman, along with returning actors such as Rick Moranis, who is expected to come out of retirement to reprise his role as the villainous Dark Helmet. In a statement when the news of the film first broke, Gad said: "Still in the early days, but to work with the legendary Mel Brooks to make this franchise and legacy worthy is a dream come true."
