Introduction to Urban

Picturehouse Entertainment has acquired the rights to distribute Harris Dickinson’s directorial debut, Urban, in the UK and Ireland. The film is set to premiere in cinemas on October 3. Urban has already gained recognition, winning awards for Best Actor and the Fipresci Prize in Cannes.

The Story Behind Urban

The film tells the story of a rough sleeper, played by Frank Dillane, who is searching for salvation. He faces both external forces and inner demons that keep him trapped in a cycle of self-destruction. According to Screen’s review, the film is "infused with an unexpected beauty".

Production and Cast

Urban was produced by Archie Pearch at Devisio Pictures, along with Scott O’Donnell from Somesuch. The film was developed by the BBC Film and financed by BBC Film, BFI, and Tricky Knot. Executing producers include Eva Yates, Ama Ampadu, Alexandra Tynion, and Olivia Tyson. Harris Dickinson’s previous acting credits include Baby Girl, The Iron Claw, Scrapper, and the Palm d’Or winner Triangle of Sadness. He is also set to play John Lennon in an upcoming film about the Beatles.

Distribution and Release

Picturehouse Entertainment is thrilled to be distributing Urban in the UK and Ireland. "Picturehouse is the perfect home in Great Britain for Urban", said Dickinson. "Their passion for brave filmmaking and unshakable love for cinema is inspiring. I am proud to start my debut feature with them and look forward to the journey ahead." Sara Frain, sales manager for Picturehouse, added: "As soon as we saw Urban in Cannes, we knew we had to be involved. The film is sharp, moving, and wise, with an excellent lead performance by Frank Dillane. Harris is an incredible filmmaker, and I am honored that he has entrusted us to bring this extraordinary film to the British and Irish audience."
