Introduction to James Gunn’s Soundtracks

James Gunn has a way with film soundtracks, as seen in his "fantastic mixture" of songs in the Guardian of the Galaxy films. The 70s soul jams, such as Blue Swede’s "Hooked on a Feeling" and Redbone’s "Come and Get Your Love," were presented in a unique way. The soundtrack for The Suicide Squad also featured punk rock from the 80s, including songs by The Jim Carroll Band and Pixies.

James Gunn’s Soundtrack for Superhuman

With Superhuman, James Gunn remains on the punk rock course but brings it to the 21st century with "Punk Rocker" by Teddybears, featuring Iggy Pop. The song is a key part of the film’s emotional finale and continues to play during the credits. The well-rated and well-attended DC studios start on the right note with this soundtrack.

Iggy Pop’s Involvement

The 78-year-old Iggy Pop is thrilled to play a key role in one of the summer’s biggest hits. He says, "I always thought the track had soul. Superman is the best friend you could have." The steel man could turn out to be a good friend who can burst in several ways.

The Soundtrack’s Success

"Punk Rocker" recorded considerable profits after the opening weekend, with streams rising from 1,572 to almost 190,500 on July 12th. Another song on the Superhuman soundtrack, "5 Years Time" by Noah and The Whale, saw a 1000 percent increase in streams, from 7,300 to 85,400. Only time will show whether these profits are a sign of more considerable boosts to come.

Comparison to Previous Soundtracks

The success of the Superhuman soundtrack is reminiscent of the Guardian of the Galaxy films. "Hooked on a Feeling" and "Come and Get Your Love" saw considerable recovery due to their prominent placements in the films. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 went triple platinum, while Vol. 2 went platinum. It will be interesting to see if the Superhuman soundtrack follows a similar path.

Conclusion

James Gunn’s soundtracks have a way of making an impact, and the Superhuman soundtrack is no exception. With its unique blend of punk rock and soul, it’s sure to be a hit with fans. Ethan Millman contributed to this report.
