Warning to Actors: Beware of Lucy Harrison Casting
The British actors’ union, Equity, has issued a warning to its members to avoid dealing with Lucy Harrison Casting (LHC) or accepting new work from them. This warning comes amid concerns over the agency’s partial liquidation and alleged non-payment of thousands of pounds to its members.
What is Lucy Harrison Casting?
LHC is an acting and casting agency that represents "unique and diverse talent" and focuses on young actors and models in film, TV, theater, advertising, and music videos. Some of their clients have appeared in notable productions such as Apple’s film "Flash", Netflix series "Kaos", and BBC/A24 series "Dreaming Whilst Black".
Equity’s Concerns
Equity’s warning states that LHC, which is registered as Happy House Productions LTD, has announced its intention to enter liquidation due to unpaid income owed to its members. The union recommends that its members do not engage with LHC or accept new work from them, citing the risk of non-payment.
Liquidation and Non-Payment
LHC’s liquidation has raised concerns about the agency’s financial stability and its ability to pay its members. Equity has stated that it will report any further trading by LHC to the relevant authorities to investigate whether any fraudulent activities have taken place.
LHC’s Response
A representative of LHC has responded to the allegations, stating that two separate companies, Happy House Media LTD and Happy House Productions LTD, were established in 2021 and both operated under the Lucy Harrison Casting brand. While Happy House Productions LTD has entered voluntary liquidation, LHC claims that the brand is now operating exclusively under Happy House Media LTD, which is a legally separate entity that is fully compliant with all relevant laws and regulations.
Financial Losses
According to financial records, Happy House Productions LTD recorded a loss of £66,791 in net assets in the financial year ending October 31, 2024, while Happy House Media LTD had a loss of £2,878 during the same period. Edward Lightfoot is listed as the director of both companies.
Conclusion
Equity has advised its members to exercise caution when dealing with LHC, citing the risk of non-payment and the agency’s uncertain financial situation. While LHC claims that it is operating lawfully and transparently under Happy House Media LTD, the union’s warning serves as a reminder to actors to be vigilant when dealing with casting agencies and to prioritize their financial security.
