Box Office Report

The box office in Great Britain and Ireland experienced a slow opening weekend, with Warner Bros’ Superhuman leading the pack with a £7 million gross. This is significantly lower than the opening weekends of similar films, such as Man of Steel (£11.2m) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (£14.6m).

Top Five Films

The top five films in Great Britain and Ireland for the weekend of July 11th to 13th are:

  1. Superhuman (US) – £7m
  2. Jurassic World Rebirth (US) – £3.2m
  3. F1: The Film (US) – £1.2m
  4. How to Train Your Kite (US) – £581,616
  5. 28 Years Later (US/UK) – £497,439

Film Performance

Superhuman had a slow start, with daily admissions ranging from £2 to £2.7 million. The total gross of £7 million comes from 685 locations, with an average of £10,180 per cinema. This is the first film in the new DC universe of film and series publications by Warner Bros, following the completion of the 16-film DC Extended Universe.

Comparison to Previous Films

In comparison, Man of Steel (2013) achieved a total gross of £30 million, while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) reached £36.6 million. The heat wave in Great Britain and Ireland may have contributed to the slow box office performance, with many summer blockbuster holdovers experiencing a decline of over 60% from the previous weekend.

Other Notable Films

Other notable films in the top 10 include:

  • Jurassic World Rebirth, which added £3.2 million to its total gross, bringing it to £19.4 million.
  • F1: The Film, which added £1.2 million to its total gross, bringing it to £15.9 million.
  • How to Train Your Kite, which added £581,616 to its total gross, bringing it to £19.3 million.
  • 28 Years Later, which added £497,439 to its total gross, bringing it to £13.7 million.

Upcoming Releases

With cooler weather forecasted for the coming days, exhibitors are hoping that the box office will soon pick up. The release of Paramount’s Smurf next Friday is expected to bring in a significant amount of revenue.

Some independent films that performed well over the weekend include:

  • The Ballad of Valais Island, which added £43,996 to its total gross, bringing it to £1.8 million.
  • The Salt Path, which added £35,000 to its total gross, bringing it to £7.9 million.
