Matt Cameron Leaves Pearl Jam

After 27 years of being the drummer for Pearl Jam, Matt Cameron has announced that he is leaving the group. This news was shared by both Cameron and the band on social media.

A Message from Matt Cameron

Cameron expressed his gratitude and love for the band and its members, saying, "After 27 fantastic years I took my last steps for the Mighty Pearl Jam along the drum Riser." He also thanked Jeff, Ed, Mike, and Stone for inviting him to join the band in 1998, giving him the opportunity to experience a life filled with friendships, art, challenges, and laughter. Cameron acknowledged the crew, employees, and fans around the world, stating that he will forever be grateful to them.

Background and Achievements

Matt Cameron was initially the drummer for the legendary Grunge band Soundgarden from 1986 to 1997, and later rejoined from 2010 to 2017. He also played drums for the Grunge band Skin Yard. Cameron has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, once for his work with Soundgarden and again for his work with Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam’s Statement

In a statement, Pearl Jam described Cameron as "one of our first musical heroes" and praised his work with Soundgarden and Skin Yard. The band called Cameron "a unique and true strength package of a musician and drummer" who has driven their live shows and studio recordings for the past 27 years. Pearl Jam stated that this chapter with Cameron was deeply important for the group and that they will always wish him the best. The band expressed that Cameron will be deeply missed and that he will forever be their friend in art and music, saying "We love you, Matt." However, the band did not provide any details about a potential replacement for Cameron.
