Meet the 12-Year-Old Dance Sensation
A 12-year-old girl from Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset has made headlines by winning not one, but two world championship titles in dance. Isla’s incredible achievement has left her and her family stunned, and she describes the feeling as "living in a dream."
The Competition
Isla took part in the World Freestyle Championships in Blackpool, which was held on June 28th and 29th. She competed in the Freestyle Solo and Slow Dance categories, going up against around 60 dancers from countries such as South Africa, Ireland, and Norway. Despite the tough competition, Isla’s talent and dedication shone through, and she emerged victorious in both categories.
A Dream Come True
Isla trains at the Dynamics School of Dance in Bristol, and her hard work and perseverance have clearly paid off. She said, "It’s like living in a dream," and her mother, Fiona, added that she was "absolutely shocked" by the result. Fiona said, "To achieve something like that, being so young, is crazy." Isla’s victory was all the more impressive given that she had only recently started dancing, and her mother revealed that she was so nervous before the competition that she couldn’t feel her legs.
Overcoming Nerves
Despite her nerves, Isla performed exceptionally well, and her mother said that she "just didn’t expect it at all." Isla’s mother recalled that her daughter had said she couldn’t feel her legs and had stumbled on her opening step, but she still managed to win. This just goes to show that with determination and hard work, anything is possible, even when you’re feeling nervous or unsure.
A Proud Moment for All
Emma Mounters, the head of the Dynamics School of Dance, said, "Everyone at the dance school is just very proud of Isla. She works very hard, and everything we throw at her, she takes on the chin and works exceptionally hard." Isla’s victory is not just a proud moment for her and her family, but also for her dance school and community.
A Bright Future Ahead
Isla’s mother said that she was grateful to her dance teachers, MS and Maizie Rugman, and her sponsor, Alex Weston, "for everything they did to help her achieve this." As for what’s next for Isla, her mother said that she’s not sure when the excitement will die down, but "we can hardly wait to see what Isla does next." With her talent, dedication, and passion for dance, the future certainly looks bright for this young champion.
