Country Music Controversy

Country singer Gavin Adcock has recently spoken out against Beyoncé’s album "Cowboy Carter", stating that it does not belong in the country music genre. During a live performance, Adcock expressed his opinions on the matter, saying "This shit is not a country music". He also pointed out that "Cowboy Carter" was ranked higher than other country music records in the Apple Music Country charts.

Adcock’s Statements

Adcock put Beyoncé in the crosshairs, saying "One of them Beyoncé, you can tell her that we come for her damn ass". He emphasized that "Cowboy Carter" was never country music and will never be considered as such. Adcock, who was nominated for the new male artist of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards 2025, explained his reasons for speaking out against Beyoncé’s album on social media.

A Personal Connection to Beyoncé

Interestingly, Adcock revealed that he has a personal connection to Beyoncé’s music, having listened to her songs as a child. He even remembered her Super Bowl half-time show, which was well-received at the time. However, despite his admiration for her music, Adcock does not think that "Cowboy Carter" should be classified as country music. He simply states that "She is Beyoncé", implying that her music does not fit into the country genre.

Beyoncé’s Inspiration

Beyoncé has previously explained that the idea for "Cowboy Carter" came to her after she had an experience where she felt unwelcome in the country music scene. This experience led her to study the history of country music and explore its archives. She has also referenced her performance of "Daddy Lessons" at the Country Music Association Awards in 2016, where she was accompanied by the Dixie Chicks. Despite releasing "Cowboy Carter" and breaking several records, Beyoncé was excluded from the nominations for the same show, sparking a backlash against the institution.

Upcoming Releases

Adcock is preparing to release his new album "My Own Worst Enemy" on August 15. He will also be opening for Morgan Wallen on several tour dates, including Miami and Toronto. The country music scene is abuzz with excitement and controversy, with Adcock’s statements against Beyoncé’s album adding fuel to the fire.

Reaction on Social Media

The controversy has also sparked a reaction on social media, with many fans and critics weighing in on the debate. A tweet from @Popspectator reads: "Country artist Gavin Adcock Slams Beyoncé after his album under ‘Cowboy Carter’ in the Apple Music Country charts is subject: ‘This is not a country music, and it was never country music and it won’t be a country music’". The tweet has garnered a lot of attention, with many people sharing their opinions on the matter.
