Introduction to the Lawsuit
The Great Britain-based producer financier Anton has reacted to a legal lawsuit against him and producer John Zois of Kate Beckinsale. The actor claims that the action film "Canarian Black" was unsure and dangerous, leading to her sustaining "serious and debilitating injuries".
Response from Anton
A spokesman for Anton stated, "We follow strict safety standards for all of our productions. We check these allegations that we consider without merit." This response indicates that Anton is taking the allegations seriously but believes they are without foundation.
Background on the Film
"Canarian Black" is an action film directed by Pierre Morel, with Kate Beckinsale playing the lead role of an extended CIA operative who is blackmailed by terrorists. The film was shot on location in Croatia at the end of 2022 and early 2023 and was released by Amazon MGM Studios last year.
Allegations Made by Beckinsale
According to the lawsuit, Beckinsale claims that the set was unsure and that despite earlier agreements with the accused, the necessary resources and staff were not made available to safely manage her physical performance and exposure to intense physical demands. The lawsuit alleges that the leadership in the action film failed to provide many key resources, equipment, and trained staff.
Violation of Contractual Agreements
It is also claimed in the lawsuit that, despite a 12-hour limit on shooting days specified in Beckinsale’s contract, the shooting would often go for 15 hours. Furthermore, when Beckinsale returned to shooting in February 2023, the producers allegedly ignored the rotary restrictions imposed by her doctors.
Progress of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit was initially submitted anonymously in December 2024 before serving the defendant, Anton Entertainment, with detailed allegations and Beckinsale’s name in May 2025. This indicates that the lawsuit has been ongoing for some time and has now entered a more public phase.
