Sabrina Carpenter’s Rise to the Top
Sabrina Carpenter’s latest single, "Manchild", has debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, marking her second chart-topping song in her career. The song, which is part of her seventh album "The Best Friend of Man", has started strong with 27.1 million streams and 20,000 units sold.
A Hot Start to the Summer
The success of "Manchild" is a positive sign for Carpenter, who is looking to make a splash this summer after her breakthrough song "Espresso" became one of the biggest hits of 2024. The song’s debut at number one on the Hot 100 chart comes almost exactly one year after Carpenter landed her first number one with "Please Please".
Chart-Topping Competition
The Hot 100 chart is heating up with other popular songs, including Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae’s "What I Want", which fell to number three, and Wallen’s "Just Case", which took the fourth spot. Kendrick Lamar and Sza’s "Luther", which spent 13 consecutive weeks at number one this year, rounded out the top five.
Addressing Controversy
Carpenter has also been making headlines for the album artwork of "The Best Friend of Man", which features her posing naked except for a few white lace stockings. In a recent interview, Carpenter addressed criticism of sexualization in her music, saying "It’s always so fun for me when people complain… These are the songs they made popular."
Album Chart Success
On the album side, Wallen’s "I Am the Problem" took the top spot for the fourth week in a row, while Lil Wayne’s "Tha Carter VI" came in second with around 108,000 units sold. K-Pop group Enhyphen’s "Wish: Unleash" debuted at number three, and TikTok influencer Popstar Addison’s debut album "Addison" took the fourth spot.
