Passing of a Film Industry Icon

Jason Constantine, a former co-president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, has sadly passed away at the age of 55 due to cancer. His legacy in the film industry will be deeply felt, especially considering his contributions to some of the most successful franchises in recent years.

Early Career and Education

Constantine’s journey in the film industry began over 25 years ago when he started as a director of acquisitions at Trimark Pictures, which later merged with Lionsgate in 2001. A native Californian, he completed his education at Princeton University and later received his MFA in film production from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. His academic background and early interests in film were evident in his work on short films. He wrote and directed two shorts, "For Whom the Wedding Bell Tolls" and "Ash," with the latter winning the Producers Guild of America Award for Best Student Film.

Notable Works and Contributions

Constantine was an early champion of several successful franchises, including the "Saw" franchise, the "John Wick" franchise, and "The Expendables." His work on films like "Crash," "Knives Out," "The Hitman’s Bodyguard," "Angel Has Fallen," "Cabin in the Woods," "Girl with a Pearl Earring," and "Ride Along" showcased his diverse taste and ability to cater to a wide range of audiences. Additionally, his involvement in projects such as "Dear White People" highlighted his commitment to promoting diverse voices and stories in the film industry.

Tribute and Legacy

In a statement, Lionsgate reflected on Constantine’s impact, saying, "With his fearless spirit, creative energy, and enduring talent relationships, Jason embodied the best of our studio and our industry. His influence will continue to be felt in many of our most successful franchise films." This sentiment captures the essence of his contributions to the film world and the lasting impact he will have on the industry.

Personal Life

Jason Constantine is survived by his wife, Kristin, and their sons, Lucas, Xander, and Nicholas. His family and his work will continue to be a testament to his memory, inspiring future generations of filmmakers and industry professionals.
