Introduction to a New Film

Janus Films has acquired all North American rights to a drama film, "The Love That Stays", directed by Hlynur Pálmason from Iceland. The film debuted at the Cannes Festival this month.

Background of the Film

The deal follows Janus’ acquisition of Pálmason’s previous film, "Godland", which premiered in Cannes 2022. "The Love That Stays" stars Saga Garðarsdóttir and Sverrir Gudnason as parents navigating their separation for over a year within their family. The film features Pálmason’s Icelandic Sheepdog Panda, who won the Palm Dog Award in Cannes.

Production and Distribution

The film was produced by Anton Máni Svansson at Still Lives and Katrin Pors at Snowglobe, with co-producers including Hobab, Maneki Films, Film I Väst, and Arte France Cinema. New European Film Sales completed the sale.

Reaction to the Film

Janus Films described the film as "the perfect antidote against the cross-death online times we live in. This playful, funny, very contemporary new film celebrates family, beauty, danger, love, work, and the natural world with a fearless freedom that really feels alive." They expressed their excitement to continue working with Hlynur and share the film with audiences across North America.

Director’s Statement

Pálmason said, "I am happy and honored to work with Janus Films again and look forward to presenting the film to our audience in North America. We had a great collaboration on ‘Godland’ and I am glad that we can build on it with another film." This marks a positive continuation of their professional relationship, promising more compelling film projects in the future.
