British Independent Film Awards Launches New Training Program for Emerging Filmmakers

The British Independent Film Awards has launched its latest training program, Jumpstart, with 30 emerging filmmakers selected to participate. The program includes 12 directors, 10 writers, and eight producers, and is supported by Prime Video and the Screenskills Film Skills Fund, with additional support from Film Finances International and Molinar.

Program Details

The Jumpstart program provides technical and professional training, mentoring, networking, and access to resources to help filmmakers develop their second feature film. The program will run until February 2026, and participants will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts and gain valuable experience.

Participants

The participants in the program include some talented emerging filmmakers, such as Pretty Red Dress director Dionne Edwards and Sky Peals director Moin Hussain. Other notable participants include Copa ’71 co-director Rachel Ramsay, Bring Her Down director Christopher Andrews, and Girl director Adura Onashile.

Notable Participants

Four of the participants were previously named as Screen Stars of Tomorrow: Onashile, Andrews, Edwards, and Hussain. Jethro Massey, the writer-director of the Venice 2024 title Paul & Paulette Take a Bathroom, is also participating in the program.

Program Goals

The Jumpstart program aims to support the next wave of British filmmakers in their long-term careers, with a focus on achieving global success. The program is designed to provide emerging filmmakers with the skills, knowledge, and industry connections they need to succeed in the film industry.
