Upcoming Film to be a "Visual Love Letter" to Skegness

Introduction to the Project

An upcoming Shane Meadows film will be a "visual love letter" to his favorite resort, said the celebrated director. Meadows, known for titles including "This is England" and "The Gallows Pole", recently stopped to talk to the local artist John Byford while filming on the beach in Skegness.

The Story Behind the Film

In a video shared by Mr. Byford online, Meadows revealed that the road trip film, called "Chalk", tells the story of two girls who travel from Margate to Edinburgh. Meadows shared that when he was a little boy from Uttoxeter, he had a family friend who had a static caravan in Ingoldmells, which is where a large part of his youth was spent, and he has nothing but beautiful memories of Skegness.

Personal Connection to the Location

The director said it was an "honor" to be back in the area and said it would be his "proudest moment" if the film could be premiered in the city. Meadows says he has good memories of holidays in the resort as a child. The resort was the first place on the map that he wanted to start filming, and he added that he never thought he would come back and film there.

Filming and Inspiration

Meadows wanted to write a "visual love letter" to his favorite holiday resort. The crew was seen filming on the beach and the pier, including donkey rides. Mr. Byford described his encounter with Meadows as an "absolutely brilliant experience" and said he was looking forward to seeing the film.

Conclusion and Future Plans

The film’s release is highly anticipated, especially in Skegness, where it was partially filmed. Fans of Meadows’ work and locals alike are excited to see the final product and how the director’s personal connection to the location will be showcased.
