Introduction to the Venice Film Festival
The Norwegian director Dag Johan Haugerud was appointed jury president of Giornate Degli Authori, the independent section of the Venice Film Festival. Haugerud won the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlin Film Festival for his film Dreams. This prestigious award is a testament to his exceptional filmmaking skills and his ability to create thought-provoking movies.
Haugerud’s Connection to Giornate Degli Authori
The presidency of the jury marks a return for Haugerud, whose 2019 film Beware of Children had its world premiere in competition on the days of the authors. Haugerud expressed his admiration for Giornate, stating that it is very important to him due to its passionate and selective programming, as well as its focus on innovation, originality, and independence.
Praise from Artistic Director and General Delegate
Giornate artistic director Gaia Furrer praised Haugerud’s cinema, describing it as timeless and deeply rooted in a deep philosophical interest, which makes us human. She highlighted his unmistakable style as one of the delicate complexities that are the best answer to the efforts of the eaten. Giorgio Gosetti, General of the Giornate delegates, also expressed his appreciation for Haugerud’s confirmation and loyalty to their idea of cinema, which clearly shows how the Giornat has now become a common reality in which filmmakers prove themselves and reaffirm their identity.
Upcoming Venice Film Festival
The selection of Giornate Degli Authori’s international competition will be announced at the end of July, along with the full Venice program. The Venice Film Festival is set to run from August 27th to September 6th, and it promises to be an exciting event with a diverse range of films and talented filmmakers in attendance.
