Cannes Film Festival Updates

The Cannes Film Festival has seen a mix of reactions to the latest films. Lynne Ramsay’s "Die, My Love" received mixed scores on Screen’s Cannes jury grid. Other films, such as Richard Linklater’s "New Wave" and Chie Hayakawa’s "Renoir", also made their mark.

Mixed Reactions to "Die, My Love"

"Die, My Love" achieved an average of 2.5 stars after ratings were submitted. The ratings ranged from excellent, with 4 stars from Time’s Stephanie Zacharek, to a zero star, with a bad review from The World’s Mathieu Macharet. The film features Jennifer Lawrence as a new mother struggling with psychosis, alongside Robert Pattinson, Sissy Spacek, and Lakeith Stanfield.

Comparison to Previous Films

The score for "Die, My Love" is similar to Ramsay’s 2011 film "We Have to Talk About Kevin". However, it falls short of her 2017 drama "You Were Never Really Here", which scored 3.1 stars in the jury grid.

Other Films on the Jury Grid

"New Wave" Receives Average Scores

Richard Linklater’s French-speaking biopic "New Wave" received an average of 2.7 stars from critics. The film tells the story of the emergence of Jean-Luc Godard’s 1960 classic "Breathless". Most critics gave the film two or three stars, while Zacharek gave it a four-star review.

"Renoir" Gets Mixed Reviews

Chie Hayakawa’s Japanese drama "Renoir" also received an average of 2.5 stars. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw gave the coming-of-age drama four stars, but RogerEbert.com’s Ben Kenigsberg gave it a one-star review.

Upcoming Films on the Jury Grid

The next films to be featured on the jury grid will be Adirley Queirós’ "The Secret Agent" and Wes Anderson’s "The French Dispatch" and also "The Phoenician Program" by Wes Anderson. These films are highly anticipated and are expected to make a significant impact on the festival.
