Angelina Jolie Presents Trophée Chopard at Cannes Film Festival

Angelina Jolie made a stunning appearance at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday evening, where she presented the Trophée Chopard to rising stars Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett. The glamorous dinner, which took place on Carlton Beach, was attended by a plethora of stars, including Juliette Binoche, Jeremy Strong, and Quentin Tarantino.

The Power of International Cinema

Jolie emphasized the importance of international cinema, stating, "I love international cinema. It brings us to other countries, into private moments, even onto the battlefield. We connect and we take on." She cited films like "My Father’s Shadow," which premiered at Cannes, as examples of the impact that international cinema can have. Jolie believes that making international cinema more accessible is essential, and she welcomes any efforts to do so.

Challenges Faced by Artists

Jolie also acknowledged the challenges faced by many artists around the world, who lack the freedom and security to tell their stories. She paid tribute to artists who have lost their lives, including Fatima Hassouna, Shadardood, and Victoria Amelina. Jolie’s humanitarian work is well-known, and her passion for supporting artists and promoting creative freedom is evident in her words.

The Trophée Chopard

The Trophée Chopard, founded in 2001, celebrates emerging talent in international cinema. The award honors an actress and an actor each year, and past recipients include Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger, and Florence Pugh. Colomb and Bennett follow in the footsteps of last year’s winners, Sophie Wilde and Mike Faist.

Meeting Angelina Jolie

Both Colomb and Bennett were thrilled to meet Jolie, who they described as down-to-earth and supportive. Bennett expressed his admiration for Jolie’s ability to balance her career and humanitarian work, saying, "I just wanted to ask her how she does everything. It’s crazy, and she takes care of it so well, completely quietly." Colomb was also struck by Jolie’s kindness and humility, saying, "She is beautiful, she is super nice. I looked at her and said, ‘Wow! It’s incredible, it’s unreal.’"

Jolie’s Praise for Young Talent

Jolie had high praise for the young actors, saying, "I think they are very brave in their work. They make very courageous decisions, and they are very committed and emotionally open." She believes that they have a promising future ahead of them and will make significant contributions to the world of cinema.

Words of Wisdom

Jolie shared some words of wisdom that she had received from her mentor, Jacqueline Bissett, which were to learn French and make French films. This advice had clearly served Jolie well, and she passed it on to the young actors as they begin their own journeys in the film industry.
