Incident on the Cannes Croisette

A section of the Cannes Croisette was closed on Saturday afternoon after a palm tree fell on the sidewalk, reportedly injuring a pedestrian. The incident occurred in front of the Mademoiselle Gray Plage Barriere Beach, a key location for Cannes events.

What Happened

At around 12:30 p.m. CEST on Saturday, a loud "crack" was heard as a tree was blown over by the wind, followed by a cry from a person. A passerby reported that a man was seen lying on the ground with blood on his head and was being treated by other pedestrians. Emergency services were quickly called to the scene.

Aftermath

The pedestrian was removed from the sidewalk by 1:45 p.m. Rescue services worked to remove the tree from the sidewalk, as seen in a video shared on social media. The incident caused a significant disruption to the area, with the sidewalk in front of the event location being closed.

Busy Time for the Festival

Saturday afternoon is one of the busiest times of the festival, with thousands of visitors attending meetings and events along the Croisette. The incident occurred at a time when the area was particularly crowded, causing concern among festival-goers.

Investigation Underway

Screen International has contacted the festival and the authorities for a statement. The incident is currently under investigation, and more information is expected to be released soon. For now, the exact extent of the pedestrian’s injuries and the cause of the tree’s fall are unknown. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
