Introduction to The Bondsman
The action horror series, "The Bondsman", was canceled by Amazon after just one season. The show originally debuted its entire first season of eight episodes on Prime Video on April 3.
Performance and Ratings
Although Amazon has not released any official viewer information, the show appeared in the Nielsen streaming charts the week it debuted. For the week of March 31 to April 6, "The Bondsman" reached number nine on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 with 563 million minutes, which corresponds to about 9.38 million hours.
Cast and Plot
The show starred Kevin Bacon as the title character, alongside Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, Beth Grant, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy. The official series description reads: "The murdered Bounty Hunter Hub Halloran (Bacon) is resurrected by the devil to catch and send demons that have fled from the prison of hell. By hunting these demons with the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins have condemned his soul – and urges him to find a second chance, love, and redemption."
Creation and Production
Grainger David created "The Bondsman" and served as executive producer, while Erik Oleson was the executive producer and showrunner. Kevin Bacon also executive produced, in addition to his starring role. Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie executive produced for Blumhouse Television, and Paul Shapiro from Crimethink also produced.
Critical Reception
The show received mostly positive reviews from critics upon its release. However, some critics noted that the show had to rush through setup in its first season, with only eight half-hour episodes. As one critic noted, "With only eight half-hour episodes in its first season, ‘The Bondsman’ has to rush through setup before it can comfortably settle into a longer, more meandering route."
