Introduction to TIFF: The Market

The Canadian sales veteran Charles Tremblay has been appointed as the head of TIFF: The Market, which is set to debut next to the festival in September 2026. With over 20 years of experience in the Canadian film industry, Tremblay has a proven track record of acquiring and driving films.

Career Background

Tremblay recently served at Mubi, where he supervised the Canadian publication of several titles, including The Substance, Strange, and Mary. Prior to his role at Mubi, he was a co-founder of Metropolis Films Distribution with Merrel Media and served as the managing director for 11 years. In 2017, he joined MK2, the Canadian distributor MK2 | Miles End, which was later acquired by Sphere Media and became Sphere Film in 2022. Tremblay was the president of Sphere Films until he left in 2024.

New Role and Responsibilities

As the head of TIFF: The Market, Tremblay will oversee the industry team, including Geoff Macnaughton, Vice President of Market Programs and Theater, who will report to him. The market representatives will organize meetings in a pop-up location in the city center from September 4th to 10th, providing visitors with a sneak peek at the exhibition options, programmatic pillars, and strategic partnerships for the next development in the global screen business.

Upcoming Events

The official marketplaces are expected to be announced in the coming months. This year’s edition of TIFF starts next week and runs from September 4th to 14th. The pop-up event will give visitors a unique opportunity to explore the market’s offerings and get a glimpse into the future of the global screen industry.

Conclusion

With Charles Tremblay at the helm, TIFF: The Market is poised to become a major player in the global film industry. His extensive experience and expertise will undoubtedly shape the market’s direction and provide a unique platform for filmmakers and industry professionals to connect and showcase their work.
