Introduction to The Chronology of Water
The Forge has acquired the North American rights to Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, The Chronology of Water. This film is based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir and stars Imogen Poots as a woman who suffered an abusive childhood. The story follows her journey as she discovers her voice through writing, after experiencing swimming, sexual experimentation, toxic relationships, and escapes.
The Film’s Release
The film will be positioned as the main attendant for the coming season in the company’s December award ceremony, with a broader publication to follow in early January 2026. This strategic release plan aims to generate buzz and anticipation for the film’s wider release.
Cast and Crew
The Chronology of Water boasts a talented cast, including Jim Belushi, Thora Birch, Charlie Carrick, Susannah Flood, Kim Gordon, and Tom Sturridge. The film is produced by a team of experienced professionals, including Charles Gillibert, Yulia Zayceva, Max Pokrov, and Svetlana Punte, among others. Kristen Stewart, Maggie McLean, and Dylan Meyer are also involved in the production through Nevermind Pictures.
Production and Acquisition
The acquisition of the film’s rights was negotiated by Mark Mathias Sayre, CEO of The Forge, along with Steven Michael Swadling and Decker Sadowski. The deal was made with WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers. Les Films du Losange will handle international sales and French sales.
Behind the Film’s Vision
Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut has been praised for its unique vision and pulsating energy. According to Mark Mathias Sayre, "Kristen has not only staged a film that she has worked out a world with unmistakable vision: one that pulsates with pain, and despite pulsating, [it] feels alive." Stewart herself expressed gratitude for the support of independent filmmakers, stating that "films like ours should be born on the screen."
