South Park Takes on Trump’s Takeover in Washington DC
The popular animated series "South Park" has released its 27th season’s third episode, which tackles Donald Trump’s recent actions in Washington DC. The episode, titled "Sickofance," was released on Wednesday, August 20, at 10 p.m.
The Episode’s Plot
A teaser for the new episode was dropped on Tuesday evening, showing the show’s pseudo mascot, an anthropomorphic towel, in Washington on a bus, meeting hundreds of soldiers. Despite the dark clouds and tanks rolling through the streets, the towel happily proclaims, "This seems to be the perfect place for a towel!" as it approaches the White House lawn.
Trump’s Actions in DC
The episode’s release comes after Trump asked for an aggressive cleanup of crime and homelessness in DC, introducing hundreds of soldiers and federal agents to the streets of the Capitol. The White House also announced that it would set up an "emergency commissioner" to the DC Metropolitan Police Department. This move has raised concerns among many, including actor Alec Baldwin, who addressed the issue in a TikTok video.
Alec Baldwin’s Concerns
Baldwin expressed his concerns about Trump’s use of troops in Washington and his move to take over the DC police department. He questioned what would happen next, asking if Trump would also take over the police departments of other major cities like New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Baldwin also wondered if Trump’s actions would extend to other areas, such as the NFL and NBA.
Reactions to Trump’s Actions
The announcements have also attracted the attention of the Attorney General of DC, Brian L. Schwalb, who sued the Trump administration for "illegal" movements. Schwalb stated that the administration’s actions violate the right of the district to self-government and the security of DC residents and visitors. He described the administration’s actions as an "affront to the dignity and autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call the district home" and vowed to fight to stop them.
