Introduction to Larry Lamb’s Poetry
Larry Lamb, a renowned actor from the popular TV show Gavin and Stacey, has rediscovered his passion for writing poetry after a gap of several decades. The 77-year-old actor, who claims to be 1% Welsh, began writing poems in 1983 but stopped until a poet friend encouraged him to start again.
The Beginning of Larry’s Poetry Journey
Larry started writing poems in the 1980s, and it was a spontaneous decision. He wrote a series of poems about his life and the way he saw things. However, he didn’t pursue it further until 2020, when he found an old file of his poems in the attic. He showed them to a poet friend, who was impressed and suggested that Larry should do something with them. This encouragement led Larry to start writing poems again, many of which were about the same time in his life.
Upcoming Performance
On September 27, Larry will read his work for the first time, along with some of his favorite poems from his childhood, at the Hereford Military History Festival. He is excited to perform near Wales, a place that holds significance for him. Larry expressed his surprise at how much he enjoys writing poetry, especially now that he has more experience and time in life.
The Poetry Process
Larry finds the process of writing poetry fascinating, as it brings out the poet in him and allows him to express his thoughts and feelings. He loves the fact that he is responsible for the writing process and can express himself freely. Larry hopes to follow his upcoming performance with a tour, telling stories through his poems.
Future Plans
In addition to his poetry, Larry has also completed a novel, which he will be promoting from September to December with a series of dates in Great Britain. He will visit Barry on December 2, and fans can expect to hear some of his memorable stories, including those from his time on Gavin and Stacey. When asked if he would wear a wetsuit for a winter swim, Larry jokingly replied that he would wear his "birthday suit" and distribute masks so that people can "switch the graphics."
