New Exhibition Showcases Local Art Talent
The Three Counties Open Art Exhibition has unveiled a stunning collection of works created by artists from Staffordshire, Shropshire, and Cheshire. The exhibition, which is being held at Fenton Town Hall in Stoke-on-Trent, features 97 pieces of art selected from over 300 submissions.
Exhibition Background
The exhibition is now in its 29th year and is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, between 11:00 and 3:00 p.m. BST. The organizers, Keele University, have curated a diverse range of art, including paintings, photography, textiles, and even a motorcycle installation.
Featured Artists
One of the featured artists, Alicia Walker, a textile artist from Wolstanton, is excited to showcase her work. Her piece, inspired by the ceramic workers in Staffordshire, explores the theme of traditional craftsmanship and its decline in North Staffordshire. Walker’s artwork, a factory worker jacket, tells the story of pottermakers who worked in hazardous conditions and had to constantly repair their worn uniforms.
Artistic Inspiration
Walker explained that she used vintage and naturally colored fabrics to create the jacket, which is a testament to the struggles of the workers in the ceramic industry. Another artist, Susan Carr, 58, from Crewe, began painting 20 years ago as a way to cope with the sudden loss of her son. Her painting, Coming Home, is a powerful depiction of the despair and horror faced by displaced people in war zones around the world.
