New Releases at the Box Office

This weekend, several new films are opening in cinemas across Great Britain. One of the most anticipated releases is the A24 production, which sees Dakota Johnson starring as a matchmaker in New York City. The film, which also features Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, follows Johnson’s character as she becomes embroiled in a love triangle between her perfect match and her ex-boyfriend.

Box Office Performance

The Oscar-nominated song "Past life" (2023) has opened to a strong start, achieving a total of 3.1 million GBP after premiering at Sundance. Another notable release is the action comedy "Nobody 2", which stars Bob Odenkirk as an aging father and former assassin who is drawn back into his turbulent past. The first film in the series, "No one", opened at 376,067 GBP and went on to comprise a total of 1.4 million GBP in 2021.

Horror and Thriller Releases

Entertainment film distributor has begun Michael Shank’s body horror "Together" in 525 locations. The film stars real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a duo whose long-term problems are exacerbated by a malicious, unnatural force. The film premiered at Sundance this year and has also played at Locarno this month. Modern films have also opened "Love", part of Dag Johan Hauberuds "Dreams/love/sex" trilogy, at 23 locations. The film focuses on a doctor and a nurse who meet on a ferry and explore social intimacy standards.

International Releases

Yash Raj Films has begun Ayan Mukerji’s "War 2" in 298 locations, with Hrithik Roshan returning as the impassable villain Agent Kabir. The war started with 145,408 GBP and achieved a total of 723,039 GBP in 2019. Victoria Mapplebeck’s documentary "Main board" has also opened in 16 locations via Tull Stories, recording the director’s journey as a single mother over two decades.

More New Titles

Bulldog Film Distribution has published Caroline Ingvarsson’s "Unhindered" in six websites, telling the story of a Swedish television presenter whose life is derailed by an accusation against her dominant husband. The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) is organizing an exclusive screening of Catarina Ruivo’s "My grandmother Trelotótó", which documents the life of her late grandmother through uncovered letters. Miracle Comms has started Michel Fessler’s live-action "Bambi: A story of life in the forest" in 136 cinemas, retelling the classic story of the orphaned fawn.

Animated Releases

Kaleidoscopes Entertainment is distributing the animation "Super Charlie", based on Camilla Lackberg’s children’s book series of the same name. The film follows a baby born with superpowers and his 10-year-old brother, who has always dreamed of fighting crime. Swedish filmmaker Jon Holmberg writes and directs the film.

Re-Released Classics

On a busy weekend, several classic films are being re-released. Netflix has opened Benjamin Caron’s "Night always comes", starring Vanessa Kirby as a protector forced to confront her violent past. Jim Jarmusch’s 1999 film "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai" has been re-released by Park Circus in 29 cinemas, starring Forest Whitaker as a mafia samurai hitman. Curzon has also released the Brazilian director Walter Salles’ 1998 drama "Central station" in 23 locations. Japanese fantasy animations are also returning this week, with a 4K restoration of Oscar winner Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli film "Princess Mononoke" and Mamoru Hosoda’s "Wolf".
