A Dream Come True for Farnham Youth Choir

The Farnham Youth Choir from Surrey had the opportunity of a lifetime to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in the BBC Proms, describing the experience as a "literal dream". This prestigious event took place on Saturday, where the choir participated in a reproduction of Neptune in Holts alongside the National Youth Orchestra.

The Concert Experience

A total of 30 singers between the ages of 13 and 21 took part in the concert, making it a truly unforgettable experience for the young performers. Patrick Barrett, the group’s artistic director, expressed his pride and delight in the young people, stating that it was "really, really something special".

A Surprise Invitation

According to Mr. Barrett, it was a nice surprise to be invited to take part in the global classical music stage at the BBC Proms. He considered it an honor for the Farnham Youth Choir to be heard at this level. The choir had only five days to join the National Youth Choir and learn the music before the performance, but they rose to the challenge and delivered an outstanding show.

A Singer’s Perspective

Freya Hanmer, 19, who sang at the event, shared her thoughts on the experience. She found the Royal Albert Hall to be an iconic and amazing venue, and performing at the BBC Proms was a dream come true. Her words echoed the sentiments of the entire choir, who were thrilled to have had the opportunity to perform on such a prestigious stage.

A History of Success

This is not the first time the Farnham Youth Choir has achieved great things. Last year, they participated in the World Choir Games 2024 in New Zealand, where they won two gold medals. This recent performance at the BBC Proms is another testament to their hard work and dedication to their craft. The choir’s success is a reflection of their passion for music and their commitment to excellence.
