Alison Brie’s Thoughts on Scream 7
Alison Brie has shared her thoughts on the Scream franchise and her potential return for Scream 7. In a recent podcast episode of "Hold the flap Evan," Brie discussed her character’s possible comeback after some of her former castmates were announced to be returning for the new film.
Her Character’s Fate
Brie played the role of Rebecca Walters, a book publicist, in Scream 4. Her character met a brutal end, being stabbed by Ghostface in the stomach and thrown from the edge of a parking garage. Despite this, Brie’s husband, Dave Franco, mentioned on the podcast that he thinks her character could be brought back with new "scream" rules.
Return of Former Castmates
It was previously reported that David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley would be reprising their roles in Scream 7, despite their characters’ deaths in previous films. Additionally, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Parker Posey have also been announced to be returning. Brie noted that she’s heard "tons of people are coming back," including Hayden Panettiere, who returned in Scream 6.
Problems with the Current Era
Brie shared her concerns about the current state of the horror franchise, particularly with regards to the survival of the "Core Four" characters: Sam Carpenter, Tara Carpenter, Chad Meeks-Martin, and Mindy Meeks-Martin. She thinks that too many characters are living and that the "Core Four" should be dwindled down to just two by Scream 7.
Lessons from Previous Films
Brie also discussed the importance of killing off main characters, citing the example of Randy Meeks’ death in Scream 2. She believes that this approach keeps the franchise exciting and unpredictable. She also expressed her sadness over the death of Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette, in a previous film, calling it a "mistake" and advising the franchise to "keep the main trial" going.
Scream 7 Release and Cast
Scream 7 is set to be released in theaters on February 27, 2026, with Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott. The returning cast includes Courteney Cox, Arquette, Foley, Lillard, Gooding, and Brown, as well as newcomers such as Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, and McKenna Grace. With Brie’s comments in mind, it will be interesting to see how the franchise approaches her character’s potential return and the fate of the "Core Four" in Scream 7.
