Introduction to Wavelengths

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is set to present the 25th edition of its Wavelengths lineup, celebrating international, experimental, and avant-garde cinema and contemporary art. This year’s lineup features a diverse range of films, including eight feature-length movies, a special pairing, and three shorts programs.

Featured Films

Some of the notable films included in the lineup are Rhayne’s world premiere "lever", a follow-up to his 2021 film "Rose. Other". Additionally, there are North American premieres for LAV Diaz’s "Magellan" featuring Gael García Bernal, and Alexandre Koberidze’s "Drylet", which was shot using an antiquated Sony Ericsson phone.

Tribute to Tomonari Nishikawa

The lineup also contains a tribute to the late avant-garde filmmaker Tomonari Nishikawa, who passed away in April. The tribute includes a screening of his short film "Ten morning ten evenings and a horizon", which had its world premiere at TIFF in 2016.

Curators and Contributors

The Wavelengths program is curated by senior curator Andréa Picard and associate curator Jesse Cumming, with contributions from Jason Anderson and Diana Cadavid.
