Busta Rhymes, a renowned rapper, has denied allegations of attacking his former assistant, Dashiel Gables, also known as Trevor Smith. These allegations were made after Gables submitted a federal lawsuit against Rhymes at the beginning of this week.
Details of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in a federal court, accuses Rhymes of attack and battery, deliberate infliction of emotional distress, and several violations of minimum wage, overtime, and wage statement laws. Gables is seeking unspecified damages. According to the lawsuit, Gables was employed by Rhymes from July 2024 and claims that Rhymes routinely yelled at him, screamed, and made inappropriate comments towards him and other employees.
The Incident in Question
Gables alleged that on January 10, 2025, at 4 a.m., Rhymes attacked him at his New York residence. The incident apparently occurred when Gables used his phone for work to respond to a call from his daughter. Rhymes became angry, hitting Gables twice, and told him to "stay the fuck off the phone." When Gables explained that it was his daughter calling, Rhymes responded, "Don’t tell me about your damn child, what the hell does it have to do with me?" Gables attempted to explain that it could have been an emergency, but Rhymes allegedly hit him again and became even angrier, screaming like an irritated child.
Aftermath of the Incident
Following the alleged attack, Gables went to the hospital to treat swelling and bruises on his face and subsequently filed a police report. Gables claims that the attack and the police report have "frozen him out of the hip-hop industry," leading to significant economic damage and preventing him from finding employment in his field. As a result, he has been forced to seek work in other industries with significantly reduced wages.
Rhymes’ Response
In response to the allegations, Rhymes stated, "I was made aware of the claims of Dashiel Gables, and I completely and categorically reject these accusations." He claimed that Gables worked for him for a short time but did not work out, and it appears that Gables has decided to react to being let go by making claims against Rhymes to attack and damage his reputation. Rhymes is preparing a countersuit, which he believes will expose Gables’ true intentions. Rhymes is confident that the truth will prevail and that he will be able to wrongly prove these allegations.
