Introduction to a Classic Film
A special homage is being created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a film that was nominated for an Oscar. The film, "The Story of Adèle H.", was shot in various locations on the island of Guernsey and features local actors. To mark this milestone, a new documentary is being made about the film.
The Story Behind the Film
The French historical drama tells the true story of Adèle Hugo, the youngest daughter of author Victor Hugo, and her unrequited love for a military officer. The film was nominated for an Oscar 50 years ago and is still remembered today for its powerful storyline and strong performances. The French actress Isabelle Adjani was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Adèle Hugo in the film.
Creating a New Documentary
The Victor Hugo Center has teamed up with filmmaker Lars Janssen to create a short documentary about the project. Mr. Janssen has interviewed islanders who were involved in the project, including actors and carpenters. He said, "I am proud to interview all of these people who have had their own interesting experiences. It’s great to record this little piece of history."
Memories of Filming
One of the islanders who was interviewed by Mr. Janssen is Kathryn Prince. She was asked to take part in the film due to her participation in the Guernsey Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Club. She shared memories of filming in places such as Castle Cornet and said that the experience was "a lot of fun". Ms. Prince said, "I would somehow get it out of my thoughts. But now that it reappeared, I have the brain on my way to remember everything I can because it was exciting at the time."
Premiere of the Documentary
The documentary will premiere on September 6th at the Princess Royal Center for Performing Arts, followed by a screening of the 1975 film. This event is a great opportunity for fans of the film to learn more about its history and production. The documentary will provide a unique insight into the making of the film and the experiences of those who were involved in it.
