Introduction to Innovative Art

A new open-air art exhibition has begun in Coventry city center, offering a unique experience for art lovers. The project utilizes augmented reality (AR) to bring large works of art to life, making them appear as if they are floating in the air when viewed through a smartphone or tablet.

The Concept of Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is an interactive experience that enhances the real environment by adding computer-generated content. This technology allows artists to push the boundaries of their creativity and showcase their work in innovative ways.

The Exhibition: "This Is Me, This Is Us"

The exhibition, titled "This Is Me, This Is Us," features works created entirely by disabled and neurodiverse artists. By scanning a QR code, visitors can view a variety of sculptures and paintings that seem to defy gravity. The display is currently available at Broadgate Square in the city and will remain until October 31.

Empowering Disabled Artists

Celine Llewellyn-Jones, the project manager, aimed to create a platform that showcases the talents of disabled artists and makes their work accessible to the public. The exhibition was created in collaboration with artists from the Art Riot Collective and the Coventry University Disabled Employees and Carers Network.

The Impact on Artists

The project has had a profound impact on the participating artists, including Ismatjahan Ravat, a non-verbal neurodiverse artist. According to her supporter, Sabiha Suleman, Ismatjahan’s involvement with Art Riot has enabled her to grow as an artist and create larger, more public works. The exhibition has brought her joy and allowed her to share her talent with a wider audience.

Making Art Accessible

The use of augmented reality in the exhibition has made it possible for people to experience the art in a unique and immersive way. By using a smartphone or tablet, visitors can view the works of art from different angles and perspectives, creating a more engaging and inclusive experience. The exhibition is a testament to the power of art and technology in breaking down barriers and promoting accessibility.
