Upcoming Film and TV Productions in Ireland
Ireland is set to host a range of international and local film and TV productions this summer. Many of these productions are expected to provide employment opportunities for Irish crews, particularly with the anticipated return of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday in the autumn.
New Projects and Productions
Several new projects are scheduled to start filming in Ireland, including US filmmaker Zachary Wigon’s Victorian Psycho, which stars Maika Monroe, Jason Isaacs, and Thomasin McKenzie. The horror thriller is a US-UK production that will film across Ireland and Great Britain from August 18. Additionally, Jon Erwin’s film Young Washington will shoot in both Ireland and Virginia, with William Franklyn-Miller playing the lead role of George Washington.
Fantasy Series and Local Productions
The fantasy series The Wayfinder is currently filming in Troy Studios in County Limerick, directed by Glen Winter and starring Mackenzie Crook. The series is produced by Arrowstorm and Limerick-based Dark Day Pictures. Other Irish productions scheduled to start filming in August and September include Colm Bairéad’s Mary Rose and Declan Recks’ A Sweet Hour.
Returning Productions and New Releases
Element Pictures is set to film the third and final season of the comedy series The Dry for RTÉ and ITV in Dublin. Meanwhile, the film The Lost Children of Tuam, based on the discovery of a mass grave of 800 infants in a mother and baby home, is scheduled to start filming in September, with Liam Neeson serving as a producer. The British filmmaker Rob Savage’s horror film Other Mother (previously known as Grandma’s House), starring Jessica Chastain, has wrapped up filming in Ireland, as has Stephen Burke’s action comedy Million Hunt, which was filmed in Dublin and Dundalk.
Boost to the Irish Film Industry
These upcoming productions are expected to provide a significant boost to the Irish film industry, with many Irish crews and production companies involved in the projects. The second season of Netflix’s Wednesday was the largest production to ever shoot in Ireland, and the return of the series is highly anticipated. With a range of exciting new projects and productions on the horizon, Ireland is set to remain a hub for film and TV production in the coming months.
