Introduction to Julia Garner’s Role
Julia Garner doesn’t care what people think about playing Silver Surfer in "The Fantastic Four: First Steps". While speaking with BBC at the London premiere of the film, Garner was asked about the initial reaction of some fans who thought a man should play the Silver Surfer. The "Wolf Man" star said that she did not think much of the discourse and focused on delivering her best version of the character.
Reaction to the Character
"I said, ‘I will only do my job,’" she said about the counter reaction. She also noticed that she played a variation of the character and added: "It is also Shalla-Bal, so it’s different." Shalla-Bal, which was first seen in "The Silver Surfer" #1 in 1968, is the female counterpart to Norrin Radd, which was presented in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" in 2007.
Background on Shalla-Bal
In the comic book series, Shalla-Bal is a significant character, and her introduction in the film brings a new perspective to the story. The Humanoid Alien was played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne in the 2007 film. The reaction to Garner’s Surfer was overwhelmingly positive after the first "Fantastic Four". Garner said she was excited to see the hype of fans.
The Cast of Fantastic Four
The film features a talented cast, including Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, also known as the Thing. Ralph Ineson plays Galactus, while Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich round off the lineup.
Garner’s Thoughts on the Role
"I was only glad that people resonate with it like any other project," added Garner. "I am grateful to be a part of this dance, to be honest with you." Garner’s enthusiasm and dedication to her role are evident, and her performance as Shalla-Bal is highly anticipated. With the positive reaction from fans and the talented cast, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is expected to be a exciting and action-packed film.
